In Memory of Kizmet

Sadly, we have lost yet another wonderful Roxy dog. Kizmet, while young, had all the qualities of a seasoned therapy dog and she will be greatly missed.

Here are some words from her owner/handler, Deborah Deeken:

Kizmet (Glenview’s This Is My Destiny THD CGC TKI) 2019-2022, crossed the Rainbow Bridge Friday. Her life was cut way too short, but she lived it to the fullest. Whenever I get a puppy, I tell them that I know they will break my heart one day, as I envision them, woven into my life, for the next decade. I never thought I’d have to say goodbye to her before her 3rd birthday. She was a special, beautiful girl, and a joy to me, and touched the lives of many.

She did her last therapy dog visit one week ago, having just earned her title. She loved therapy work, especially with children. In her 2 years of service, she brought smiles and comfort with her gentleness.

Late April, within one week of showing any symptoms, Kizmet was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma with hypercalcemia - a very aggressive cancer with a devastatingly grim prognosis. With treatment, she had a good 5 weeks, and for that I am grateful, but not without heartbreak.

Kizmet lived a big life in a small window of time. In her final weeks, we did as much as possible, including a trip to McD’s and Rita’s! She had no restrictions, limited only by her declining energy. She was part of a tight pack - the youngest of three. She served as a mentor and playmate to my puppy mill rescue, Stella, and she simply adored, loved to play, and cuddle with my Roxy dog, Chance.

Kizzy loved many things in life, among them going for walks at parks and expecting all children to stop to pet her. She is deeply missed.
If love alone could have kept you here, you would have lived forever.
