In Memory of Chloe
It saddens me to say we have lost another long-time, beloved Roxy dog. Chloe was magical in so many ways, not the least of which is how she defied the odds after her first cancer diagnosis. She will be greatly missed by so many of us. Here are some words from her owner/handler, Maggie Sivak :
We lost our beautiful Chloe today. Damn cancer!!! She was our miracle dog, having survived hemangiosarcoma—something that our vet said was impossible to do in 2019! But she did it. Unfortunately, last December she was diagnosed with a 2nd cancer in her leg, histiocytic sarcoma, another deadly aggressive cancer. She was treated and doing really well until about 2 weeks ago. Life for her changed quickly. The pain meds stopped working sadly.
To quote a friend---Chloe had a magnificent life! She loving barking at the front door at joggers, dogs & neighbors. They all knew she was just saying hello. Many of them stopped to wave at her. That always made me chuckle. She loved her frisbee and she LOVED to swim. She loved all people and all dogs. She never once growled in her life. Never. Not ever. Nothing was more important than food and her treats! Her last two meals were bacon and eggs and a cheeseburger. She ate them with labbie gusto!
She loved being a therapy dog. She passed her both tests at the tender age of 1, a testament to her loyal obedience. Over her 10 years of service, she touched so many lives. Too many memories to mention! But here’s just a few. Chloe was a vocalizer. One boy at Linden Elementary insisted that she said, “Hi Kevin!” She entertained at that school in the Halloween the parade and in classrooms with her lion costume. Our proudest moment was at the DA’s office at the courthouse. Because of her gentle demeanor with the mother of a crime victim who was always terrified of dogs, Chloe allayed the mother’s fears in a very emotional moment for us, NOVA and the DAs office. We found out later that the mother and daughter rescued a dog and named her Chloe.
Chloe was a famous smiler and wagger! Passerby’s on walks would comment on her smile and wagging tail. She was so happy always and brought such joy to those around her just by being her. So in her honor, we hope to live our lives with the lessons she taught us: Wag more, bark less and never, ever growl.
RIP sweet Chloe. We will never forget your beautiful soul and will miss you forever.
