Roxy Goes Back To School

Article Submitted By Phyllis Mikolaj, Roxy Director of Schools

The 2019-20 school year is off to a tremendous start! Roxy Therapy Dog teams are in ALL of the CBSD elementary schools this year with great interest and enthusiasm from many teachers.

Based on feedback from last year, we made several improvements to our online parent permission form process and added a new teacher page for easy form tracking. The improvements have helped expedite sign ups and several teams have already begun visiting classes.

This year, Roxy is also expanding into the CB Middle Schools. We look forward to a great year! Thank you for helping to make the start of this school year a success!

The Roxy Club Celebrates Its First Anniversary

Roxy teams visited our friends at CB East High School during the first week of school to provide some canine therapy. Our teams also attended the CB East Club Fair to help educate students about the CB East Roxy Club. This club is celebrating its first anniversary. It was created by Roxy Associate Director of Volunteers and CB East junior, Maddi Fleck, in an effort to raise funds for Roxy Therapy Dogs and also to provide students with much needed stress relief, particularly during exam times.

We are looking forward to another great year working with these incredible students!!

CB East Roxy Club fun!

Be Like Bud Goes To Court

BeLikeBud-Homepage-art-1.jpg

When Be Like Bud was published in November 2016, Roxy had high hopes that it would touch the lives of children (and adults) not only in our community, but far beyond. As this was our very first foray into writing and publishing a book of any kind, we really didn't know what to expect. We printed a very small run, just to be on the safe side. Fast forward almost 3 years and Be Like Bud has had an extremely positive effect on countless children. Not only did this incredibly special book reach more children than we could ever have imagined, it also raised much needed funds for Roxy so that we can continue to comfort and support children for years to come.

Acknowledging the fact that not every child who would enjoy and benefit from Be Like Bud has the means to get a copy, the Roxy Board of Directors has decided to donate the last few hundred copies to the Bucks County Courthouse for distribution to children visiting Dependency Court. Sadly, many children visit court more than once so for those who have already visited and received a Roxy Puppy, this will give them the opportunity to receive something new and experience this wonderful book about the dogs that comfort them during their visits.

Roxy is proud of Be Like Bud. It has been a wonderful gift to our organization, the children we serve, and our community. It will continue to benefit children for years to come. Thank you to everyone who made this book possible - from our own volunteers to the donors who sponsored its publication.

A Special Tribute To Nike

Chelsea Braun’s Special Education students at Unami Middle School love their visits with Roxy therapy dog, Nike, and her handler, Janet Stavrides, SO much that they created a special rap song. With assistance from their music teacher, Daniel Myers, the students put their thoughts and feelings for Nike into a fun and entertaining rap song. We’re so impressed with the talented Central Bucks students and staff!

Watch The Nike Rap today! We hope you like it as much as we do!
