Making Every Day A Better Day
by Steve Glabere and Tucker, Roxy Volunteers
My self and my trusty dog, Tucker, have been part of Roxy Therapy Dogs for almost 1 year now. We are blessed to be able to provide support in the schools, the courthouse and as a Roxy Responder. It has truly been a pleasure to share my dog with so many students in special education classes, autistic support classes and integrated classrooms.
As far as our team impact on others, I immediately think of all the students that light up when they see Tucker, the students that take pride in being able to read aloud for 3-5 minutes when they were tentative to even sit with him, and the special education (often physically challenged) students who smile and hug him.
However, I also see the special moments when the teachers give him a scratch behind the ears or stop us just to give (and get) a hug from him, the pure joy and comfort of the distraction for the youth who are dealing with court procedures, the judge who stops court to say hello to Tucker, and all the staff at all the locations who smile at us and find a moment of happiness in our visits.
So, yes, we have an impact by being there for the “children” but the joy we spread as therapy teams to all involved makes every day a better day.
