Welcome to the 2018 Spring Roxy Reporter Newsletter!
Yes, it is Spring! What a winter! Roxy Teams have been busy offering comfort and support. We truly appreciate our loyal “UNDERDOGS” Eagles fans who generously donated to win a signed 2018 Super Bowl LII Champion Eagles Football.
Congratulations to the winners, Phil Flynn and Joe McCans.
You are all “TOP DOGS” to us at Roxy Therapy Dogs!
Roxy President Receives Prestigious Award
Sharon Fleck, president of Roxy Therapy Dogs, received the prestigious 4 Way Test Award from the Doylestown Rotary Club. The award recognizes volunteers who demonstrate promotion of the 4 guiding principles throughout the community.
As the first volunteer president of Roxy, Sharon has advanced the mission of Roxy Therapy Dogs by creating a better understanding of the connection between people and dogs, evaluating the impact and fairness of each project, building strong relationships with community leaders, organizations and partners, and taking extraordinary steps to turn ideas into successful programs.

Judge Mellon Shows His Love For Roxy Therapy Dogs
A picture speaks a thousand words. Never was that more true than when Judge Mellon unveiled his official retirement portrait. Seven years ago, Judge Mellon contacted Roxy in the hopes that we could partner with the Bucks County Courthouse to provide much needed support and comfort for children navigating the judicial system. While Judge Mellon takes great pride in this program, he is particularly proud of the fact that it has served as a model for other jurisdictions in Pennsylvania and across the country.
So, it really comes as no surprise that when it came time for Judge Mellon to sit for his official courthouse portrait, he chose to include a Roxy puppy. These Roxy puppies are very well known in the Bucks County Courthouse as we provide one for each child that our teams visit there.
We are extremely grateful to Judge Mellon for his continued support of Roxy Therapy Dogs and honored that he chose to make us a part of his official courthouse portrait. We think this portrait says it all!
Will Receives His Eagle Scout Badge
Will Forker is a friend of Roxy Therapy Dogs. Will asked us if he could structure his Eagle Scout project around Roxy. For those unfamiliar with how to become an Eagle Scout, not only is it incredibly difficult, but it is also a very lengthy process. On average, only 2% of scouts in the United States go on to earn their Eagle Scout badge.
In addition to raising money for Roxy through community events, Will built a beautiful wood table to be used at Roxy events, a wood storage bin for event supplies, and a wonderful wood book shelf that is proudly displayed at the Bucks County Courthouse. On Sunday, March 25, Will received his Eagle Scout badge in a special ceremony. Way to go, Will!
Roxy Dogs Deliver in Doylestown
On April 21, Roxy Teams participated in the annual Y Healthy Kids Day in Doylestown. This event promotes kid and family-friendly activities that stimulate the mind and body, improving the health and well-being of children. The dogs delivered wet noses and wagging tails! They loved spending time with the kids on the cool and sunny day. Thanks to Christina, Anita, and all the team volunteers; Sarah with Oskar, Lia with Emma, Phyllis with Katie, Lisa with Piper, and Alice with Keeper.
Roxy Teams joined the fun at the Delaware Valley University’s Activities Day (A-Day) on April 29. The humans were chilly on the blustery day but the dogs loved being outside, welcoming visitors with some puppy love! Children and adults alike enjoyed meeting our dogs. Our very own, super talented Donna Doan not only volunteered but also played the piano for the Delaware Valley Choir. Special thanks to Christina, Pat, Linda and Bob, as well as, our Roxy teams who volunteered; Donna with Buddy, Sarah with Oskar, Denise with Freya, Stacy with Scarlett, Joanne with Theo and Ivy, Cheryl with Finnegan, Alice with Keeper, and Mary with Tess.

Irina and Bud Will Be Missed But Never Forgotten
On February 19, a beloved Roxy canine volunteer, sweet Irina, passed away peacefully. Those who knew her had the pleasure of meeting “the happiest little brown dog on earth”.
Irina’s favorite place to work was Doylestown Hospital. She had a special way with people, always knowing who needed her love most. She also visited the bereavement group at CB West. Irina would snuggle up and cuddle with everyone – always comforting.
Irina will be missed terribly, but in our hearts forever.
Also in February, our Roxy Therapy Dogs family lost another long-time, beloved canine volunteer. Bud passed away just shy of 13 years old, after volunteering with Roxy Therapy Dogs for the last 9 years. Bud loved visiting his classes at Gayman Elementary School every week! He also comforted children at the Bucks County Courthouse. Bud was the very first dog to participate in our High School Student Support program where he brought much needed peace and calm to students struggling with stress and anxiety.
Bud’s calm, gentle demeanor and his soulful eyes will be missed by many.

Janet Stavrides and her dog Nike visit elementary school classes weekly, the high schools and Del Val for a research project. They visit Pedia Manor and the Courthouse too.
