Local Non-profit Changes Name as Services to Community Expand

The well-known provider of therapy dog services to children in central Bucks County has a new name, Roxy Therapy Dogs, announced Sharon Fleck, the non-profit’s President. “Roxy was founded on our childhood literacy program, which remains a major part of our work, but our teams now serve children needing comfort in many other areas,” she said. “The new name presents a more accurate picture of who we are without losing our inspiration, Roxy.”

The founder of the organization, Diane Smith noted that, “responding to community requests to bring comfort to children with our therapy dog teams drew us into programs in the courts and the medical system – I expect that new requests will continue to broaden our list of programs.” In 2016 alone, the group provided 3880 hours of volunteer time valued at $94k (Independent Sector).

The organization’s cheerful orange and blue logo with its stylized dog, modeled after the “real” Roxy, will continue with just minor text changes.

Roxy Therapy Dogs is a 501 (c) 3, all-volunteer non-profit registered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Present programs include working with children in all of the elementary schools in the Central Bucks School District, high school students who suffer from grief, stress or anxiety, children supervised by Bucks County Dependency Court, with the District Attorney’s office for child victims of crime, medically fragile children at Pedia Manor group homes, and children in the Pediatric Unit of Doylestown Hospital. All programs are provided free of charge and are dependent on donations.
