Thank You for Making Special Connections
Thanks to all of Roxy Therapy Dogs' friends, family and supporters, Roxy exceeded expectations by beating last year's total with over $1,500 in Giving Tuesday donations!
The thousands of children in our Bucks County community, including those in our Student Specialized Support program, who receive hours and hours of therapy dog visits and puppy lovin' thank you too!
One of the most exciting developments over the past year is the opportunity to support more Student Specialized Support classrooms and children. The program started in the elementary schools years ago and has grown to include two high schools. Approximately 30% of the classrooms Roxy teams now visit are specialized classes including children with multiple disabilities, autistic support, learning support, life skills, and emotional support.
Students quickly become comfortable interacting with dogs and are often able and willing to communicate their thoughts and feelings to both teachers and parents after their visits. Sheila, a parent, stated,
"My son loves when Roxy the therapy dog visits his school. He has autism and it's great therapy for him. He is afraid of dogs and I was worried that Roxy might upset him. However, last week the teacher said he went up to Roxy for the first time and petted her. I was thrilled! I love that the school has this program in place for children with autism."
